One cannot dispute the fact that the media (both print and electronic) inform the thoughts and behavior of many today. So powerful are the media that watching, listening or reading habits can alter one's purpose and destiny. The rate at which people relativize morality and trample on values is disconcerting. As government agencies and civil societies look for ways to address the challenge of indiscipline and immorality, one wonders how this can be done without dealing with a major cause of this problem: obscenities and violence that have increased in the print and electronic media.
Jesus says: ‘The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!'(Matt. 6:22-23 NKJV). Further, on many occasions Jesus emphasized the need to pay attention to the truth in order to avoid lies.
This means that the information that enters our eyes and ears must be right if we wish to live right. Many people are walking in darkness with the firm conviction that they are in the light because the light (information, knowledge, principles, philosophy or ideas) in them is darkness. To illustrate this point, one can ask the average person about his/her view on issues like love, purpose, relationship, courtship, premarital sex, marriage, divorce, evil and good and one will be amazed at the kind of 'light' people are walking with. The major source of this information? You guess. One cannot deny the way the media have contributed to this 'great walk in darkness'. In other words, what we watch (and by extension, hear) can influence how we walk. In an epoch where commercial interest is drowning the voice of censorship, the mediated world is in dire need of a reliable, attractive, alternative media content. This, we believe, is why God led us to establish Watch and Walk Ministry: a ministry which seeks to use Christian art to proclaim God's grace and truth to this generation. In our desire to facilitate holistic, productive christian living we also design and implement spiritual formation and capacity building programs.
God wants to demonstrate His manifold wisdom to the god of this age through us humans. And He does this by guiding us to the truth in Christ and empowering us to bear witness to Him so that deception will not reign over our world. We the members of Watch and Walk Ministry believe that many people will be set free from these blinding and enslaving lies as they encounter the truth through our programs. We seek to lead people to discover what it means to be human and why we need God in our society. We also aim at helping Christians to walk in God's marvelous light as royal priests and a holy nation (1 Pet. 2:9).
Watch and Walk Ministry began in July 2010 at Grace Baptist Church (Kumasi-Ghana). It later evolved into an interdenominational para-church organization in Ghana. The ministry also operates as a student-led organization at Baylor University's George W. Truett Seminary (Waco, Texas, USA).
